Castaño La Casona Monastrell 2011, Yecla
Spain$9.65
Amazing value from Spain’s eastern coast - a main source of monastrell grape. Deep dark medium-bodied red, very smooth core with flavours of ripe black berries and liquorice notes. Hints of smoked herbs. Moderate acidity and light tannins add good structure. Everyday wine which goes well with almost every meal. Tasted November 2012.
Château D'argadens 2008, Ac Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux, France$17.95
Chateau d`Argadens (the former Chateau Salle d`Arche) went through massive renovation program, and wine quality keeps getting better each year. Chateau is located in Saint-Andre du Bois, department of Gironde.
Pleasant medium-bodied Bordeaux Superieur, typical blend of Merlot, Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. Very light tannins, lot of dark fruits with notes of woods and herbs. Goes well with beet salad with balsamic reduction, goat cheese and red meats. Tasted January 2017
Interestingly enough that very close to d`Argadens is Chateau Malrome which became the home of the mother of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Château Les Hautes De Palette 2009, Ac Côtes De Bordeaux
Bordeaux, France$17.95
This 50% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon is silky smooth and nicely balanced with wood.
Flavors of black fruits and spice blend together well. Length is good, but tannins are excessive on the finish.
Tasted October 2012.
Château Lalande Mausse 2009, Ac Fronsac
Bordeaux, France$16.95
Nice juicy merlot-based Bordeaux. Black cherries and plums, spices and earthy herbs. A little high acidity and quite short finish. Tasted January 2017
