Descendientes De J. Palacios Corullón Las Lamas 2009
Galicia, Spain$116.00
This wine was exceptional and surely one of the evenings best (it can get hard to choose with so many good wines). A strong aroma bursting of blackcurrant, plums, and fennel. Great depth that has been excellently balanced. Incredible length.

Alvaro Palacios Finca Dofí 2009
Priorat, Spain$90.00
Alvaro explained how usually vineyards in the northern hemisphere face south, while this vineyard actually faced northeast to protect his grapes from the very strong sun. This wine is a blend of only three grape varieties consisting of garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah. An intense nose with jammy raspberry, herbaceous thyme and a slight hint of pepper. On the palate there is slightly more red fruit, particularly cherries. Tannic with a medium-full body.

Descendientes De J. Palacios Villa De Corullón 2009
Galicia, Spain$50.00
This wine is again made from mencia grapes; however, grown on the villages older vines. A soft nose of fresh floral, cherry, and a slight minerality. Soft tannins that are still grippy, elegant flavours of sweet red and black berries, minerality, and subtle oak. Well balanced, and an excellent finish.

Descendientes De J. Palacios Pétalos 2010, Do Bierzo
Galicia, Spain$25.00
This wine was first for me trying the mencia grape variety. Very fragrant with fresh cherry, and floral hints. Smooth tannins, and a medium body. Sweet cherry, soft vanilla, and subtle vegetal notes come through. Extra long finish.

Palacios Remondo Propiedad 2008
Rioja, Spain$39.00
On the nose there was rich berry fruit, raspberry and black berries, and spices such as, rosemary and fennel. More body than the La Montesa '09, but no more than medium with well-rounded tannins. Similar flavours to the nose, but also vanilla. Long velvety finish.

Navarro Correas Alegoria Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2007, Mendoza
Argentina$20.00
Strong ruby red colour, but still just translucent. Intense aromas of vanilla, leather, and jammy blackcurrant. Dry, medium acidity wine with lots of strong tannins left. On the palate, this wine is more fruit forward than the nose would have led you to believe, jammy cherry and blackcurrant, lots of vanilla and some earthiness. Long finish.

Alvaro Palacios Les Terrasses 2010
Priorat, Spain$48.95
A stronger aroma than the Camins del Priorat, consisting of ripe cherry and plum, and fresh rosemary. Through the palate this wine has great depth with strong tannins and the sweet fruits from its nose. Strong minerality in its very long excellent finish.

Badger Mountain Vintner's Estate Organic Syrah 2008, Columbia Valley
Washington, Usa$16.15
Dark, opaque ruby red colour. Strong complex nose of black cherry, vanilla, oak spice, pepper, and some licorice. On the palate this wine had medium, but soft textured tannins and a full body. Licorice, black cherry, vanilla, and pepper come through. Long finish.

álvaro Palacios Camins Del Priorat 2010
Priorat, Spain$25.95
A soft nose of raspberry, pepper and spice. On the palate its firm tannins and chalky texture were complimented by berry and plum flavours, rosemary, and a strong minerality. Very long finish.

Palacios Remondo Plácet 2009, Rioja
Rioja, Spain$32.00
This was my first experience trying wine made from the Viura grape and I must say I was impressed. Nosed of floral and sweet peach. On the palate it maintained much the same notes, with a nicely balanced acidity and sweetness. Lengthy finish.
