Tawse Merlot David's Block 2012, VQA Twenty Mile Bench Bottle
Tawse Merlot David's Block 2012, VQA Twenty Mile Bench

Great wine. Tasted it blind and I called it a Right Bank Bordeaux. Traditional velvety and plush texture with bright dark berries.

Very enjoyable and easy sipping wine. Beautifully made.

Hidden Bench Fumé Blanc Rosomel Vineyard 2007, Beamsville Bench Bottle
Hidden Bench Fumé Blanc Rosomel Vineyard 2007, Beamsville Bench

Cudos to Hidden Bench who does cold fermentation & natural fermentation on their wines. This Fume Blanc despite the first fruit notes coming through settles and the soft warm smoke and waxy caramel notes come through. Interesting one....

Rieflé Steinert Pinot Gris 2010, Ac Alsace Grand Cru Bottle
Rieflé Steinert Pinot Gris 2010, Ac Alsace Grand Cru
Alsace, France
$24.95

My favourite wine of 2015. I couldn't stop buying this wine, it was bang on Alsace Pinot Gris with a hint of residual sugar and beautiful aromas of peach, apricot, honey crisp apple, crisp minerality and a touch of funk.

What a wine!

J. L. Chave Sélection Offerus Saint Joseph 2013, Ac

Smokey, meaty, with roasted herb character and dark berry fruit flavours this wine is bang on Syrah and St. Joseph. Bright and balancing acidity made this wine water in my mouth. Concentrated flavours but balanced. Very nice.

A few notes of herbaceous notes still comes through despite the full fruit forward barrage. Great oaking but feels a little soft in the mouth.

Closson Chase Chardonnay 2007, VQA Prince Edward County, Closson Chase Vineyard, Unfiltered Bottle
Closson Chase Chardonnay 2007, VQA Prince Edward County, Closson Chase Vineyard, Unfiltered
Ontario, Canada
$27.95

An elegant Chardonnay for sure. This bright Chardonnay tasted with the three Chardonnay lineup stood out as being different but prefer the finish, warmth, structure of the Kocsis Vineyard Chardonnay. This 100% County fruit shows the minerality of the land and citrus notes shine through.
My preference on fatter Chards however.

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Bottle
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2015
New Zealand
$26.95

Bang on classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The acidity is searing on this wine, and will make your face quench. Very citrus driven with notes of gooseberries, green melon and lemon herb.

Lovely mouthwatering wine.

Ontañón Crianza 2005, Doca Rioja Bottle
Ontañón Crianza 2005, Doca Rioja
Spain
$16.95

What an amazing value from a great value driven producer. This wine screams Rioja and is a pleasure to enjoy with balanced oak treatment (not too heavy) and classic Rioja flavours. Slightly stewed tomatoes and those sweet and savoury asian sauce characteristics are present but not over powering nor over stewed as in some Rioja's.

The wine is smooth and long lasting. A pleasure!

Paco & Lola Albariño 2013, Do Rías Baixas Bottle
Paco & Lola Albariño 2013, Do Rías Baixas
Galicia, Spain
$19.95

Previous vintages have performed better. In a blind setting this wine wasn't too recognizable as a Albarino.

A bit flat on the palate, with none of that excitement and minerality from Rias Baixas. The aromas were subdued and subtle, the palate was more intense with some notes of lees and creamy peach.

Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2015, Swartland Bottle
Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2015, Swartland
Swartland, South Africa
$12.95

This wine overdelivers for the price point. It's a bit hot but is balanced and delivers great flavours on the nose and palate. This is my go to BBQ wine as it pairs beautifully with grilled meats.

Great expression of Syrah with the classic Syrahesque characteristics of black pepper, blueberry jam but not over concentrated or too tannic. The wine is bright and very food friendly.
