Paco & Lola Albariño 2013, Do Rías Baixas
Galicia, Spain$19.95
Previous vintages have performed better. In a blind setting this wine wasn't too recognizable as a Albarino.
A bit flat on the palate, with none of that excitement and minerality from Rias Baixas. The aromas were subdued and subtle, the palate was more intense with some notes of lees and creamy peach.
Rosewood Estates Pinot Noir 2007, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$20.00
Canadian Wine Award Gold Medal Winner, a beautiful rich cool climate Pinot that offers above average nose, flavour, length and value. If you haven't tried an Ontario Pinot, try this one.
Two Hands Gnarly Dudes Shiraz 2015, Barossa Valley
South Australia, Australia$24.95
Great example of Aussie Shiraz. This wine is driven by black fruit, herbal notes of spearmint and eucalyptus and marked purple flowers. Full bodied and juicy but the tannins and alcohol were in balance. Clean with indication of oak treatment a tasty wine and classic example.
Rosewood Estates Semillon 2008, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$17.95
A rare 100% Semillon. To make one is an achievement. Due to high acid great with vegetable based dishes, and grilled seafood. I enjoy the peachy tone on this vs a zesty Sauv Blanc. Has rounder mouth feel too.
Rosewood Mead Royale Honey Wine 2008, Select Barrel Aged, Ontario (500ml)
Ontario, Canada$14.95
Sweet yet balanced this mead is a phenomenal value. With flavours of preserved apricots, honeycomb and a bit of floral notes, it is complex due to it's barrel aging. A truely unique mead when compared to others. Tasted Nov 2012
Rosewood Estates Pinot Noir 2008, VQA Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$20.00
Perfumey on the nose with a hint of cardamon or exotic wood spice. Light in colour and weight but loaded with flavour and character. Had this with seared trout and a great wine to pair with other great fish.
Rosewood Natalie's Süssreserve Riesling 2008, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$15.05
This great full mouth Riesling is a double gold medal winner, the most recent at the Cuvee Wine Awards. A great sipping wine or match with a variety of different foods due to the balanced acidity & sweetness.
13th Street Gamay Noir 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$22.75
Top notch Gamay from Ontario. Balanced tannins really lets the fruit shine through on this great Gamay. Great acidity lends this wine for a good aging candidate and can be drunken now or really enjoyed in a few years.
Rethink Dry Riesling 2012, Mosel
Mosel, Germany$9.90
An amazing wine for this price point. It's crisp and dry which is perfect for this hot weather. At 11% alcohol it's a great summer sipper with crisp flavours of lemon zest, lime and fresh green apples.
The minerality shines through with the high acid balancing the subtle residual sugar. With this ratio of acid to sugar this wine for me is dry and a very easy sipper. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll finish this bottle.
Umberto Cesari Liano Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Igt Rubicone
Emilia Romagna, Italy$27.95
A big wine with big sugary flavours. Unfortunately this wine is over manufactured and over oaked and ends up tasting like basic red wine. No sense of place or varietal. The Sangiovese is very hidden and nothing screams Italian in this wine.
