Château Clos De L'oratoire 2009, Ac Saint émilion Grand Cru Classé
Bordeaux, France$68.85
Opaque garnet in colour and slightly maturing. Velvety and full bodied, this wine is beautifully complex showing aromas of smokey spice, black cherry, vanilla, earthiness, dark chocolate and a slight meatiness. The tannins are smooth, chalky and impeccably integrated. The finish seems endless.
Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Spätlese 2007, Prädikatswein
Mosel, Germany$29.95
bright lemon in colour. Medium sweet with balanced acidity. Floral hints with green bell pepper, apricot and honey. Very light and refreshing, a nice lunch time sipper.
Fornacina Brunello Di Montalcino 2007, Brunello Di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy$50.00
TASTING NOTE: This Brunello offers bright aromas with lively cherry, cola, humus, dark spice and pipe tobacco, as well as savory tones of beef bresaola and even a touch of white peppercorn. Impressive complexity. Elegant and streamlined on the close. Score - 94. (Monica Larner, Wine Enthusiast, May 2012) $43.00
Antolini Ca' Coato Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2008, Doc
Veneto, Italy$40.75
This is a perfect winter wine with bone warming heat and a touch of sweetness. The nose is incredibly generous, revealing intriguing aromas of leather, espresso, chocolate, cigar box, vanilla, pruned fruit, fig, exotic spices and damp forest floor. This is a full bodied Amarone with a velvety mouth feel and smooth tannins. The lingering finish seems endless but maybe a tad hot thanks to the 16.5% alcohol. A perfect pairing to a long winters day outside and a slow cooked pot roast. Decanted 6 hours.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Marlborough, New Zealand$32.90
Immensely fragrant with asparagus jumping out of the glass. Green bell pepper, mint, citrus, floral and exotic fruit also present. One of the most intense aromatic wines I've ever tasted. Bone dry with bright acid and a long fresh bitter green apple finish. Personally not a huge fan of his wine, probably because I found the asparagus hint to be off putting.
Norman Hardie County Unfiltered Pinot Noir 2010, VQA Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$39.00
Charles Baker Picone Vineyard Riesling 2010
Ontario, Canada$37.20
A very dry and bright Riesling sourced solely from chef Mark Picone's Vinemount Ridge Sub-Appellation. Notes of petrol, lime, honey and minerality. Medium-high acidity with a bright zesty long finish. Best white wine I've tasted from Ontario thus far.
