Duncan Savage Untamed Shiraz 2017, Wo Swartland
Swartland, South Africa$12.75
One left, summer 2021
August, 2020....Brought to dinner at the Tripp's (annual bocce tournament). Had with BBQ hamburgers. Wine surprised me, was expecting more heft, instead was medium bodied and quite juicy, succulent and refined. Really enjoyed it. Delicious!
Sept 2020....hostess gift to Dave & Rona. Heard from Dave that Rona opened it with girlfriends and they all loved it.
August 2022....had with Crystal, Sunday dinner. Still loving it and so did Crystal. Incredible value, really great pour for the money. Felt like a wine I could drink forever and never tire of. Checks a lot of boxes.

July 2021....initially disappointed with first glass (wanted to take rest back) but on subsequent nights it tasted ok. Just an ok CC. Can keep to see if improves or return....don't gift (at this stage).
Oct 2021....had with pasta and tomato mushroom sauce Chris gave me for Christmas 2019. I would have opened up a nicer bottle had I access to my collection so I chose the best match I had here at WD. As it turns out, it was quite nice on this occasion. Dinner was lovely, the wine worked, I was happy (sad too).

Sept 2020....gave to Sue Sheardown as a back-up in case the bottle of PG Chris had asked me to get her had become too old.

Nov 2019....bought 3, will be returning 2.
Despite the many attributes credited to this wine by the experts it still had that California cheap wine taste to me. It was dry but not extra dry. Flavorful but still carried that sickly syrupy flavour I dont enjoy (similar to the distaste I have for Australian Shiraz these days). Was worth a try but wont try it again.
Update: finished bottle on 2 subsequent nights and was quite delicious....what happened?? Kept 2 I had and bought an extra one!!
Winter 2020....hostess gift to Shelley C.
Xmas 2020...gifted last 2 to Sue & Phil, Karen & Kevin

2022 + gift?
April 2023....a quality wine for sure but there was a grape in the mix which almost overpowered it with a flavour I wasn't super keen on. That said, with a aeration and the right meal (beef, steak etc...), this wine is quite satisfying. Not sure I can gift as not for everyone.
Luna Estate Pinot Noir 2016, Martinborough

September 2021....cant remember meal but was likely salmon melts. Recollection is nice but not 'really good' as I had hoped for. Still, happy with the purchase and will look forward to the next one, say Spring 2022.
August 2022....same as above.

Dec/23....xmas gift for A&G + Norah
Jan/24....drank Norah's. I wasn't as happy with it as I was with the one Rose & Gino gave way back when. Tasted thin (lean?). Fruit was decent but not oustanding. Give the rest a little more time to see if improves...maybe better xmas 24?
