I am 'thevinoboy!!.
Controversy seems to be my hallmark... Before negatively judging my wine reviews, know that though I sometimes disagree with my more learned peers I remain true to my integrity, credibility and palate... Please don't think my reviews are 'bi-polar' or 'monochromatic'... First-tasting impressions are never lasting impressions and it is very exciting to try a new release of a previously tasted product.
Through careful study and examination, I have been awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Ontario Wine Council. I LOVE Ontario wine and everything the VQA stands for and consider myself very lucky to have lived steps away from all of Ontario's acclaimed viticultural regions.
Journals of almost 20 years of vino adventures has lead to an online blog where i can share my impressions of wines new, old and in-between.
Now I live outside of Minneapolis MN, a few miles from the Minnesota and Wisconsin AVA regions. I look forward to exploring the many small vineyards here.
Many thanks to Bryan! Your coaching and advice is invaluable!

Bodegas Escondido Estaciones Del Valle Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Mendoza Bottle
Bodegas Escondido Estaciones Del Valle Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Mendoza
Argentina
$9.95

VERY alcohol forward, a cherry/raisin flavor, a grainy mouth feel and odd lingering finish. Definitely hits the mark considering this vino is from one of the most overly mass-production-oriented of Argentina's viticultural areas.

Gray Fox Chardonnay 2010 Bottle

Freshly squeezed wheat grass juice with a dash of seltzer and a pound of sugar.
Horrible, in my humble opinion, even at this budget price.
Blech.

J.P. Chenet Limited Release Pinot Noir 2008 Bottle
J.P. Chenet Limited Release Pinot Noir 2008
Languedoc, France
$12.95

The shifting colors of ruby red and purple swish in the glass strangely as sniffs of cherry blossoms emanate. The medium body carries plums, vanilla and nutmeg upon the palate to finish subtly earthy. Decent for its price but lacks elegance. Tasted 04-Dec-2010

Stonehedge Reserve Zinfandel 2008, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County Bottle
Stonehedge Reserve Zinfandel 2008, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County

Deep lustrous red to the edge of blackness, the alcohol-forward (14.9% alc/vol!!!!!) nose is jammy and smokey with scents of charred wood and cloves. Very full-bodied and slightly off-dry, the funky charred flavor fills the mouth with dried fruits and concentrated vanilla extract. The result is an overpowering complex finish that creates the urge to wash my mouth out with Borax. I love a lot of California wines and honestly appreciate a good Zinfandel, but this one is not exactly the pick of the litter

Simonsig Sunbird Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Wo Stellenbosch Bottle
Simonsig Sunbird Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Wo Stellenbosch

At first, I thought this was a Pinot Grigio by the herbaceous scents of green grass and laurel. A crisp acidity, medium-light mouth-feel and flavors of tangy lime is very reminiscent of a New Zealand Sauv Blanc. The finish turned slightly sour but not entirely unpleasant.

Very tasty for a basic Bordeaux. Moderately alcohol forward, rich mouth feel, earthy and balanced flavors, nice finish but a little harsh.
A very good value for the coin.

Château D'aqueria Tavel Rosé 2008, Ac Bottle
Château D'aqueria Tavel Rosé 2008, Ac
Rhône, France

The deep coral color and powerfully sweet bouquet of this Tavel is very reminiscent of a strawberry liqueur. Beautifully crisp and dry with chewy flavors of strawberry and cherry. There is a complex mineral note to its lengthy finish that really surprised me. Very good in this vinoboy's humble opinion.
