I am 'thevinoboy!!.
Controversy seems to be my hallmark... Before negatively judging my wine reviews, know that though I sometimes disagree with my more learned peers I remain true to my integrity, credibility and palate... Please don't think my reviews are 'bi-polar' or 'monochromatic'... First-tasting impressions are never lasting impressions and it is very exciting to try a new release of a previously tasted product.
Through careful study and examination, I have been awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Ontario Wine Council. I LOVE Ontario wine and everything the VQA stands for and consider myself very lucky to have lived steps away from all of Ontario's acclaimed viticultural regions.
Journals of almost 20 years of vino adventures has lead to an online blog where i can share my impressions of wines new, old and in-between.
Now I live outside of Minneapolis MN, a few miles from the Minnesota and Wisconsin AVA regions. I look forward to exploring the many small vineyards here.
Many thanks to Bryan! Your coaching and advice is invaluable!

Mezzomondo Sangiovese Merlot 2008, Apulia Daunia
Puglia, Italy$8.95
Much like this winery's other offering, I find this vino rustic and homey with gulpable appeal for its budget price. A pleasant everyday wine to accompany basic foods like pizza and pasta. Also good for cooking and deglazing to add depth of flavour to your sauces and rich stews. I'd never discard it!
Rabl Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2008, Niederösterreich
Austria$11.95
Decently drinkable with ripe flavors, it just seems to fall short when alone. The suggested food pairing is good - I had this with Grilled Chipotle Chicken. Once was ok to try for the first time but probably won't buy again.
Tasted 22-Nov-2010.
Two Oceans Chardonnay 2010, Western Cape
South Africa$10.25
Tropical and decently mouth-filling,i appreciated the refreshing citrus flavours. A moderate finish with hints of vanilla oak, though the body would suggest not oaking at all...
Cat's Pee On A Gooseberry Bush Sauvignon Blanc 2008
New Zealand$12.05
Citrus-y nose followed by a faint hint of diesel. Don’t be put off by the whiff of petrol though, it gives a remarkable structure to the body and carries through to the finish of this off-dry vino. The mouth-feel is light with a fine twinge of spritzich to finish mildly herbaceous. I like this a lot.
Philippe De Rothschild Chardonnay Vdp 2008
Languedoc, France$12.05
One of the most junior lines from BPdR AND having tasted them conscientiously since 2005, I am of the opinion that if a winemaker is shooting to mediocrity, the award goes to...
Verily, this mass-produced aims pretty low in my opinion. The price is low, the quality is consisten(ly low) so its great for gifting then re-gifting.
This may be the only white wine I've ever decanted and left to breath in the fridge. It was MUCH tastier, i will admit.
From my detailed vinonotes, tasted mid 2009
Bodegas Escondido Estaciones Del Valle Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Mendoza
Argentina$9.95
VERY alcohol forward, a cherry/raisin flavor, a grainy mouth feel and odd lingering finish. Definitely hits the mark considering this vino is from one of the most overly mass-production-oriented of Argentina's viticultural areas.

Faustino V Rosado 2009, Doca Rioja
Spain$12.95
Beautiful frosted bottle, strange portrait on the label, unique nose of raspberry jam ,almost creamy mouth-feel and pleasant finish. Reminds me of a GOOD California Zinfandel Rosé. Nicely light, Modestly sweet,
Chorizo and ricotta-stuffed pasta shells in a simple tomato&herb sauce made the nicest pairing.

Gray Fox Chardonnay 2010
California, Usa$8.45
Freshly squeezed wheat grass juice with a dash of seltzer and a pound of sugar.
Horrible, in my humble opinion, even at this budget price.
Blech.

Angels Gate Cabernet Franc 2006, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$13.30
Perfectly complete. This cheerful Cab Franc makes me happy. Tasted at the winery 23-Oct-2010
Stonehedge Reserve Zinfandel 2008, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County
California, Usa$17.95
Deep lustrous red to the edge of blackness, the alcohol-forward (14.9% alc/vol!!!!!) nose is jammy and smokey with scents of charred wood and cloves. Very full-bodied and slightly off-dry, the funky charred flavor fills the mouth with dried fruits and concentrated vanilla extract. The result is an overpowering complex finish that creates the urge to wash my mouth out with Borax. I love a lot of California wines and honestly appreciate a good Zinfandel, but this one is not exactly the pick of the litter
