I am 'thevinoboy!!.
Controversy seems to be my hallmark... Before negatively judging my wine reviews, know that though I sometimes disagree with my more learned peers I remain true to my integrity, credibility and palate... Please don't think my reviews are 'bi-polar' or 'monochromatic'... First-tasting impressions are never lasting impressions and it is very exciting to try a new release of a previously tasted product.
Through careful study and examination, I have been awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Ontario Wine Council. I LOVE Ontario wine and everything the VQA stands for and consider myself very lucky to have lived steps away from all of Ontario's acclaimed viticultural regions.
Journals of almost 20 years of vino adventures has lead to an online blog where i can share my impressions of wines new, old and in-between.
Now I live outside of Minneapolis MN, a few miles from the Minnesota and Wisconsin AVA regions. I look forward to exploring the many small vineyards here.
Many thanks to Bryan! Your coaching and advice is invaluable!

Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay 2010, Southeastern Australia Bottle
Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay 2010, Southeastern Australia

$10.95

Wholly unremarkable and in my opinion, typical of most Aussie Chards in this price range. Having tasted the 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010 releases and compared my detailed tasting notes, the overall flavor profile of this wine has indeed diminished.
'10 is flabby and unbalanced, the overtly herbal finish outweighs the citrus chassis that should be carrying the wine.

I’m very accustomed to this type of wine presenting itself as sweet and full – I was surprised at how dry this is. Unmistakably lean, this vino carries slight orange aromas, scents of chemical and less acidity on the palate than others. For a grape whose characteristics are mildly spicy, the melon flavor on the palate is weird.
A different take on a normally fuller wine. Tasted 23-Oct-2010 at the winery.

A rich ruby colored vino with a vibrant fruity nose of cherry & plum. The palate is youthfully complex bearing a light oaked elegance that will only become more structured and calm as it is cellared. The finish is lingering and young displaying a surprising maturity.
A remarkable Pinot Noir. You can bet I’ll be hiding a bottle in the cellar to see what happens in 10 years.

A pale yellow in color, there are decent scents of lime, green apple and a little fresh-cut grass. The immediate flavor is light, lively & tangy with pear, honeysuckle and limestone. The finish is heightened by the under-layer of minerality, leaving the palate clean and ready for another sip.

Strewn Chardonnay Barrel Aged 2007, Niagara On The Lake VQA Bottle

A lightly spiced baked apple aroma with hints of toast. The lustrous golden color and 12.5% alc/vol offered a smooth flavor of ripe peaches and subtle flowers. Moderate acidity and medium-bodied in mouth feel with only a faint wisp of lingering wood; the finish carries a decently pleasing, fairly complex mineral twang. Very yummy and very close to a couple of other Chards i have on a favorite list. Tasted 09-Oct-2010

I stumbled upon this winery en route to Niagara Falls whilst ambling along Hwy 8. I am amazed by the wines being released from such a small bench producer!! The twangy notes of flint, limestone and oranges are immediately evident in the nose of this unoaked Chardonnay. Flavors of oranges and ripe peaches open up on the palate and balance decently with a long finish. This vino would be great with a breaded white-fleshed fish

Quite possibly the nicest semi-dry Ontario Pinot Blanc I've tasted in a very long time.

VERY uric on the nose, the pale yellow color is very immediately reminiscent... The palate is slightly sour and uncharacteristically still - the uric flavor carrying through to a tangy mineral finish. Probably not a wine I'll buy again but it seemed to improve when sipped with a bit of nosh (lemon-pepper roasted chicken).

Re-tasted 03jun2011 - must've had a bad bottle last time. This one is rustic and crispy - a pleasing glass! updated rating...

This dark-purple goop smells like a dirty ashtray to which rubbing alcohol has been added. Its chalky texture carries flavors of Mackerel and petrol to the palate and lingers most dolefully with essences of sour cherries and liniment. Truly dreadful. Tasted 21-Oct-2010
