Château Puech Haut Prestige Saint Drézéry 2010, Dop Languedoc
Red Blend
Languedoc, France
$26.95 (237289)
From the smallest appellation in Languedoc, this is a blend of grenache (60%), syrah (30%), mourvèdre and carignan (5% each) ... It’s a really attractive and luscious wine that combines delicacy and weight for an overall impression of elegance and polish. The fruit is concentrated and well layered, the acidity well calibrated, and the tannins ripe and sweet. All the components are harmonious, even at this early stage, and the integration will continue over the next few years. Drink it now, if you must, but it will repay holding and drinking 2014 to 2020. Purchased at Empire Wines in Albany for about $17 (when the C$ was at par!). A big, complex red with lots of extraction and alcohol but also some real southern France character (black fruit, pepper, herbs. Tannin is started to soften now. Finish is merely good (hence the sub 90pts rating). Overpriced in our monopoly wine market but good value when purchase in the US a few years ago. Tasted Jan 2016.
