Two Sisters Stone Eagle 2016, VQA Niagara River
Ontario, Canada$140.00
My wife and I love Bordeaux-style reds and this is the best we've had in Niagara. The only wine we've had in Canada that is comparable was the Quintus from Karlo Estates in PEC (and I'm hopeful that their Sextus will also be in this league). Dark cherry, a little evergreen, and a hint of cocoa with tannins and alcohol that are perfectly balanced. Full-bodied and smoother than a baby's bottom. The only negative that I saw was the price. But it's worth it as a 'special occasion' wine.
Old Coach Road Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Nelson, South Island
Nelson, New Zealand$21.95
Both my wife and I LOVED this wine! The only reason that I didn't rate it higher is that I don't consider it be a typical example of Sauvignon Blanc (I consider it to be superior to the typical SB to be honest). The perfect balance of citrus acidity and an unusually flavour - almost savoury. Very good with seafood of any type and we've never opened a bottle that we could stop drinking before it was empty. If Michael Godel is correct and it gets better with time, I'll need to give it a better score! :D
Bodega Garzón Reserva Albariño 2019, Maldonado
Uruguay, World$22.95
Albariño is one of my wife and my favourite wines, especially since we love seafood. This was a much better than average expression of Albariño to us - good enough that we actively sought it out after receiving a bottle as a gift. With stone fruit and citrus, a higher than expected ABV and medium body, this is the perfect wine for an elegant seafood dinner or just seafood on the grill and a lazy evening on the patio. Highly recommended!
