Luis Seabra Xisto Ilimitado White 2018
Douro, Portugal$31.78
My first Rabigato. This wine has an interesting profile. The nose has notes of vanilla, honeycomb, smoke, salt, lemon zest, grass, and a herbal aspect. The palate leans into the smokey character and introduces green apple. Medium + body with high acidity and excellent length.
Massolino Barbera D'alba 2019
Piedmont, Italy$30.65
A nuanced and complex wine. Notes of plum, black cherry, sour cherry, blackberry, violet, forest floor, vanilla, black pepper, menthol, dried sage, and an umami character of cured meat. The wine is dry. Medium bodied, with soft tannins and medium plus to high acidity.
Szászi Birtok Badacsonyi Rózakö 2018, Badasconyi
Hungary$30.65
Similar to the 2017 vintage, but with some nuanced differences. Notes of honey, wet slate, apricot, pear, lemon, almond, passion fruit, and a floral note that is hard to place, but in a different spectrum than the white flowers of 2017. There is also a cheese rind quality that carries forward onto the palate. Medium bodied with high acidity. Excellent length.
Cormons Sauvignon 2019, Collio
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy$23.87
This Sauvignon Blanc is a nice variation of the varietal. Pale straw coloured in the glass with a touch of bubbles that seem to dissipate as the wine rests. Notes of lemon, lime, grass, under ripe peach, crab apple, wet stone, and hints of floral, herbal, and tropical fruit elements which I can’t quite place. Medium minus body with medium acidity. There is also a pleasant touch of effervescence on the palate. Length is good.
