Domaine La Guintrandy Vieilles Vignes Cairanne 2009, Ac Côtes Du Rhone Villages
Rhône, France$19.95
Too primary for my taste. Lacking in complexity. Uninspiring.
Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Marlborough, South Island
Marlborough, New Zealand$24.95
Pronounced pyrazines, even for malborough. If you enjoy that sort of thing, this wine is for you.
Santa Carolina Merlot Reserva 2011, Colchagua Valley
Colchagua Valley, Chile$12.95
The nose is quite complex, with smoky, peppery notes commingled with black fruit notes. There is a pleasantly crisp acidity on the palate. Unfortunately, the tannins and length disappoint. The mouth feel is watery and the length is poor. Nevertheless, good value.
Santa Carolina Gran Reserva Petit Verdot 2011, Rapel Valley
Rapel Valley, Chile$15.95
I enjoyed this, but it's not for everyone. The bouquet is pleasant, with blueberry notes and a bright, floral youthfulness. The attack is bitter, which would likely be unpleasant for many people, but which I found engaging. Great concentration on the midpalate. But texturally the wine is surprisingly thin, and the finish is surprisingly short.
Mcmanis Family Vineyards Viognier 2011, California
California, Usa$18.95
Full-bodied with notes of peach and grass -- a perfect summer wine.
Woodbridge By Robert Mondavi Chardonnay 2013, California
California, Usa$12.45
Unenjoyable. Too sweet with a funkiness.
Santa Venere Gaglioppo Rosso Classico Cirò 2009, Doc
Calabria, Italy$17.95
Smoky, herbal, cherry and medicinal notes on the nose. Pleasant red fruit on the palate, with finely balanced acid and tannin, particularly after an hour of decanting. I'd have this again anytime.
Beauvignac Picpoul De Pinet 2013, Ac Coteaux De Languedoc, Sud De France
Languedoc, France$14.95
This wine is nice. The bouquet is nice, with pleasant, but not exceedingly intense, notes of pear, melon and gravel. The palate is nice, with pleasant, but not exceedingly intense, notes of citrus and a nicely balanced acidity. The price is nice too.
Villa Wolf Pinot Blanc 2013
Pfalz, Germany$14.95
Good bouquet and well balanced on the palate. Highly drinkable with a pleasant minerality. It's made to be enjoyed with light appetizers on the patio.
