Zenato Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore 2009, Doc
Veneto, Italy$25.95
Flavourful (although not overwhelmingly so) and somewhat jammy, but balanced.
Errazuriz Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Aconcagua Valley
Chile$19.05
Well-oaked, but not overwhelmingly so. After a few sips, certain cherry / blackberry notes become prominent. Very creamy mouthfeel. Great wine.
Bodegas Castaño Hécula Monastrell 2009, Do Yecla
Spain$12.60
This is full bodied and tannic. It's a great value.
D'angelo Aglianico Del Vulture 2009, Doc Basilicata
Italy$17.95
Don't even think about drinking this as a cocktail wine. The tannins and acid are both dialed to eleven. This is a brash, rustic red that's lacking in finesse.
Joseph Drouhin Côte De Beaune Villages 2010
Burgundy, France$19.00
Fairly primary on the nose and palate. Nicely quaffable, but lacking interest.
Hecht & Bannier Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2010
Languedoc, France$20.25
Stellar value. Impressive complexity and texture.
Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Mendoza
Argentina$12.95
I over-chilled the bottle accidentally and, as a result, the wine was overly astringent at first. However, as it warmed, more pleasant berry flavours became more prominent. I also note that it's worth decanting the bottle for a period of time before drinking.
Terrazas De Los Andes Reserva Malbec 2010, Mendoza
Argentina$18.95
Excessively astringent -- even after aerating and decanting. I wouldn't buy it again.
Leone De Castris Riserva Salice Salentino 2009, Doc
Puglia, Italy$15.75
Tasty but not overly complex
Stags' Leap Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Napa Valley
California, Usa$49.95
Wine Align is out of date -- the 2011 is now released. I find the 2011 to be problematically under ripe, with a vegetal, green pepper note.
