D'arenberg The Stump Jump Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre 2011
South Australia, Australia$17.15
For the price, just an excellent wine. I had to back to the store and buy five more bottles (now finished three of them). So if you want an impressive wine at a low cost the stump jump is for you. It is a fun, fruitful wine that is tasty yet smooth with a good after taste. Enjoy... tasted December 2014
Wine By Joe Pinot Noir 2010, Oregon
Oregon, Usa$23.95
This is just an excellent wine bringing all the oregon's best flavours into a very smooth texture that is certain to please anyone and I mean anyone.
Both the flavours and the texture linger lightly on the tongue as not to interrupt the conversation that might be going on, yet, leaves one thought "what a good wine."
Rosehall Run Defiant Pinot Noir 2017, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$19.95
From David Lawrason's review suggestion I opened a bottle in May 2019. He gave it an 88 but with the extra year of aging it's now wonderfully refreshing and well deserves a 92. In fact it is so good I just ordered a case.
Mcguigan Black Label Shiraz 2012, South Eastern Australia
Australia$10.95
Now what do you really get in a wine that costs this much? In this case you get a pleasant shiraz that it perfectly suited to casual get togethers. It goes great with cheese, cold meats, olives, and even chocolate. You could serve it easily with poultry, fish, or red meats. No, it would not impress your wine taster buddies but over a barbecue in summer or a house party in the winter, it does just fine.
Blue Pirate Pinot Noir 2009, Oregon
Oregon, Usa$18.25
This Oregon pinot noir rates right up there with much more expensive wines. Its clarity, aroma, lightness, complexity of taste does have more than enough charm to make you want more.
It is great for entertaining or sitting out at the cottage watching a sunset. The price is not out of reach for anyone who wants a better wine and that is a major plus. It may not be a wine for snubs but for those who enjoy a good pinot noir, I highly recommend it.
Kim Crawford South Island Pinot Noir 2013, Marlborough
Marlborough, New Zealand$19.95
There really is nothing special about this pinot. There are several others from New Zealand I would rather recommend. That being said it is still better than most crafted in Canada. Like most, it is light, fruity and fun. I found it a bit acidic for my taste but, as another reviewer suggested, that might it make it better when served with food. Jan 3, 2015.
Waipara Springs Reserve Pinot Noir 2013
Waipara, New Zealand$20.95
There are so many good pinots out there so whether it be New Zealand, Oregon, British Columbia, etc, each has its own charming characteristics. Waipara Springs Pinot is an enjoyable wine that has good colour, touches the tongue in a lively, tasty fashion, sits well in the mouth and has a light lingering after taste. I liked it and the price is about right for my pocket book. I doubt if anyone would be disappointed. Tasted December 2014
Familia Garcés Silva Boya Pinot Noir 2013, Leyda Valley
Chile$11.75
Contrary to the experts opinion, this wine is not even close to the New Zealand, Oregon, or B.C. Pinots. I would not recommend it especially when you can drink a Mission Hill or Cave Spring for about the same price.
Gray Monk Pinot Noir 2014, BC VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$19.95
Gray Monk has another winner with this yummy pinot noir. It is amazingly smooth with enough texture to tease your taste buds and, then, finishes with you wanting another sip. With roasted lamb it kept its own identity yet blended well making for a wonderful meal. For the price I highly recommend it.
