Tyrrell's Rufus Stone Shiraz 2006, Heathcote, Victoria
Australia$22.95
WOW!
This is an incredible wine. Halliday and Lawrason's ratings are accurate.
Medium-body with great fruit, not overly tanniny with enough to give a mild dryness to offset the fruit.
Really enjoyed this bottle, glad I bought a bunch to store and enjoy over the next 6-12 months.
Highly recommended.
Domæne Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner 2007, Kamptal
Austria$13.95
Amazing Gruner value for the price.
Very clean with a light fruit taste and a slightly sweet (not too sweet) and mineral finish. You can definitely taste the terrior of this wine.
The wine sweetened up as it became warmer - so if you prefer it sweeter don't chill it so much (the inverse is true, not so sweet, serve it colder).
Outstanding value for the dollar. Glad I grabbed a bunch.
Concha Y Toro Trio Reserva Merlot/Carmenère/Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Rapel Valley
Chile$14.95
Yowzers! Was this really $14.95?
Fantastic bang for the buck: masterfuly blended lingering finish, light tannin and wonderful herb & dark fruit taste.
I wish I bought more than 1 bottle - this is great wine for the dollar.
Nigl Gärtling Grüner Veltliner 2007
Austria$20.95
Served this along with 3 other whites and it was the favorite of the group.
Crisp, fresh and clean - Nigl has made a great wine. Enough fruit to grab the tastebuds but not overly sweet or uncontrolled.
Easy to drink, wonderful to share.
De Bortoli Gulf Station Pinot Noir 2007, Yarra Valley, Victoria
Australia$19.95
This was a fantastic wine - how good it tasted was totally unexpected. Light/medium finish and fruity but not overpowering palate. Served at a large dinner party and EVERYBODY was very impressed with this Pinot Noir.
