Quinta Da Fata 2007, Do Dão Bottle
Quinta Da Fata 2007, Do Dão
Portugal
$16.95

Very tasty and well made without being too over the top or ripe. Nose of ripe cherries, raspberries, cranberries, smoke, violets, vanilla and a hint of anise. The flavours carry through to the palate, supported by subtle oakiness. Decidedly European, but with just the right amount of new world sensibility. Nice acid balance, silky tannins and a nice, long finish.

Thirty Bench Riesling 2008, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula Bottle

As some have said, the acid might be a bit aggressive for some people but if you like zesty and bold acid on your wines, this is something you'll enjoy. The nose is very pretty, as well. Maybe it's just my imagination but I find this to be not-quite bone dry (although certainly not sweet), in a charming way.

Henry Of Pelham Pinot Noir 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula Bottle
Henry Of Pelham Pinot Noir 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada
$16.95

The hot and dry 2007 vintage makes this wine a bit more generous than the typical Ontario Pinot Noir. Very smoky nose, with notes of leather, dried cranberries and something mossy. On the palate, this is dry, medium bodied and has that same smoky character. Good level of concentration. Nicely balanced, with well present but well integrated tannins, and flavours of cherries, cranberries, spice, roasted beets and a distinct leathery quality. The finish is pretty long, if a bit coarse. Nonetheless, quite nice for the money.
