Château Pontet Canet 2011, Ac Pauillac, 5e Cru

Although the nose is not particularly compelling at the moment, the palate is explosive and concentrated, full, dense...
A serious, firm and balanced Pauillac showing fine poise, integration and harmony already. Firm fruit and tannins...
The 2011 Pontet-Canet is a beautiful anomaly, a lithe 13.5 alcohol wine in which something so subtle can seem so...
This is a firm, reserved and well built young Pauillac, but it does not have the depth or wow you may expect at this...

A wonderful Bordeaux, with nose of cassis, plum, toast, cedar, nutmeg, fig.
On the palate, the medium+ body holds acid and tannins and fruit all in check. A lot to chew, but the tannins are strong but nicely subdued at the same time. Dark fruits predominate (cassis, plum pudding), with added dried herbs, nutmeg, mushrooms.
Will happily age further.
Tasted October 2016.
