Deep garnet with some brick at the rim, this is a classic, powerful Sagrantino that has aged beautifully. Aromas of black cherry and dried plum lead into notes of cocoa, tobacco and a hint of leather. Full-bodied and structured, with firm but now well-rounded tannins and a long, dry finish.
We paired it with homemade semolina pasta and rich ragù bolognese topped with aged pecorino, and it was a perfect match. The meat sauce softened the tannins and the salty cheese lifted the fruit and length. Waiting 15 years to open this bottle proved very reasonable — the wine feels mature, balanced and fully expressive now. A bold, traditional wine that truly rewards patience and hearty food.
