Planeta La Segreta 2014
Sicily, Italy$16.95
Love the way its sweet smell is but an illusion. The taste is a lovely thirst quenching mix of savoury, lemony and refreshing rocks. Up there with Assyrtiko.
Domaine La Croix D'aline 2013
Languedoc, France$17.40
Good stuff. Consumed with homemade meatballs and spaghetti and went down a treat. Better on the palate than the nose and probably needs a year more in the bottle (this is for the 2015, tasted in November 2017), but at $17 this is a delicious bargain.
Artazuri Garnacha 2014, Navarra And Basque Country
Navarra, Spain$15.20
Can't decide if I like this or not. Starts off well, but then evaporates into a mix of Bakewell tart and cherry coke... berries, almonds, vanilla? The sugar doesn't linger though, which is probably incredibly hard to achieve. Will probably try it again with some artfully pungent cheese and see how that goes.
Gérard Bertrand Grand Terroir Tautavel Grenache/Syrah/Carignan 2013, Ap Côtes Du Roussillon Villages
Languedoc, France$19.95
Alma Negra 2011
Argentina$19.95
Intriguing. She says grapefruit (acidic) I got black currant jam. Smells like a GSM, but tastes much sweeter. Not what I expected with all that Malbec. Will definitely try this one again. Probably with a feisty cheese or two.
Château Haut Selve 2010, Ac Graves
Bordeaux, France$24.95
Lovely. Nose makes you think it will be sickly sweet but has a lovely balance. Shame I only had one bottle. Tasted October 2016
