Prosper Maufoux Mercurey 2019, A.C. Bottle
Prosper Maufoux Mercurey 2019, A.C.
Burgundy, France
$43.95

A textured and highly structured pinot noir from southern Burgundy in the Côte Chalonnaise appellation of Mercurey that tends to produce more fulsome expressions of this grape. The house of Prosper Maufoux dates by to 1860 and is both a grower and a négociant that has changed hands many a time, owned by the American importer Robert Fairchild in the 1990s and is now owned by the Famille Piffaut who have also acquired Chateau de Saint-Aubin. This recent incarnation pours a deep ruby colour with voluminous fine-grained tannins, and a wealth of red fruit likely enhanced by the pre-ferment cold soak and an extended maceration time. Entirely destemmed. The alcohol and acidity are well in check and are harmoniously integrated with the fruit on the palate. Excellent length. Best now to 2027.
