delicious example of California chardonnay
Château Haut Badette 2006, Ac St Emilion Grand Cru
Bordeaux, France$29.00
A fine example of aged Bordeaux from the Merlot-favourable 2006 vintage. Deep ruby in the glass with aromas of cedar, cherry, leather and mulberry. The palate is dry, soft, round, tasty and medium bodied with good fruit and cedar notes along with firm tannins and a good length. Very good value, this will work deliciously with a variety of grilled meats and stews. Ideal with Fall on the way. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2011)
Domaine Mouton Les Grands Prétans Givry 1er Cru 2009, Ac
Burgundy, France$29.00
Here’s a great little cellaring Burgundy. It’s made in a very modern style, with the ripe berry fruit of the 2009 vintage, toasty oak and florality. And it comes from a ‘lesser, lighter’ appellation of the Chalonnaise. So one might be tempted to drink it anytime and it is indeed approachable. But the density, fine acidity and a certain tannic and mineral firmness on the finish suggest ageing it a couple of years. The length is very good to excellent. Best Late 2012 To 2016. Tasted August 2011
