Cono Sur Viognier 2008, Colchagua Valley
Chile$9.95
I've had this wine on three or four serperate occasions and every time I really enjoyed it. It's well balanced with a little sweetness, a little spice and just enough acidity to match with any spicy asian or fried foods. Tough to beat for $10.
Cathedral Cellar Shiraz 2004, Wo Coastal Region
South Africa$15.95
I've had the 2003 and it was a very well-balanced wine with more earth and spice than typical Australian Shiraz.
Fontanafredda Barbera Briccotondo 2007, Doc
Piedmont, Italy$15.95
Definitely more tannic than I remember the 2006 being last year. Strong flavours and a little acidic. I would give it another year or two to mellow out and then it'll be great.
Castaño La Casona Monastrell 2007, Yecla
Spain$8.99
I gave this wine an 88, but for value it's 100. I have yet to come across a more consistent quality red for under $10. As other users have pointed out, it may degrade quickly if left on the counter overnight, but if you put the screw cap back on and store it in the fridge, it'll be good for at least a week.
