Lively dark plum colour. Intense nose of sweet dark cherries, ripe plums, raspberries, fresh blackberries and a touch of earthy minerality. The palate is powerful and well structured by the fine tannins. Complex flavours of dark cherries and ripe blackberries dominate, finishing off with a splash of dark chocolate. stunning pinot from one of the best years in Niagara. The wine shows perfectly extracted fruit, with excellent complexity and structure and drying tannins. It's drinking well now, but could do with another year or two; it will hold through to 2020.

Hidden Bench 'La Brunante' 2007 (Beamsville Bench, 14.3% alcohol, $85) This is a stellar blend of 53% merlot, 23% cabernet sauvignon, 12% malbec and 11% cabernet franc. It's full of concentrated, plush fruit, with very good structure, a winning juicy texture, and supple tannins. It as good a Bordeaux blend as I've tasted from Niagara

"Deep red-ruby. Complex nose melds cassis, violet, licorice, musky game, black tea and black olive. Denser than the Napa Valley offering but tighter today, with its sweetness currently under wraps. But this serious, backward wine turns sweeter on the back end, finishing with broad, dusty tannins, an intriguing note of tobacco and sneaky length. Structured for a slow evolution in bottle but even today this is not especially austere."

Inviting golden colour, The intense and generous nose shows complex aromas of ripe apricot, baked pears, dried figs, cinnamon and marzipan. The 2008 Estate Chardonnay is a rich wine with great intensity, luscious texture and finesse. Powerful aormas of white peaches, apricots, Meyer lemons and roasted almond predominate while remaining true to our terroir. The palate is appealing for its fleshy nature and the wine has structure and length to be aged gracefully for the next 5-8 years.

The wine presents a brilliant appearance with pale yellow straw colour. The powerful nose showcases the purity of great Riesling with aromas of baked lime and mandarin. The palate has wonderful weight, fleshiness and shows intense minerality that is reflective of the Felseck vineyard. A long and intense finish provides flavours of lime confit and honey.Of the many Riesling offerings produced by Hidden Bench, this is always the fullest and ripest. It serves up a high smoky/minerality and lime cordial on the nose and a combination of minerals, petrol and bergamot jam. It is a terroir based Riesling for aficionados of the grape. It is made for food along the lines of choucroute or river fish.
