Binderer St. Ursula Count Karolyi Gruner Veltliner 2013, Hungary
Hungary$10.99
Really liked this wine for the price. Fresh and crisp, with lots of lemon, green apple, and apricots on the nose and palate. A hint of floral spice, lots of acidity, and an oily texture in the mouth round off my impressions of this gruner. Well balanced and great with food.
M. Chapoutier Les Vignes De Bila Haut Côtes Du Roussillon Villages 2014, Ac
Languedoc, France$15.95
Deep purple red. Dark roasted blackberry, dark cherry, garrigue, floral, meaty, on-the-wild-side nose. Distinctively Roussillon but for the greater proportion of wild syrah notes. Medium-bodied, relatively ripe and generous but some structured tannin as well with good acidity. 16+
Gabbiano Chianti Classico 2012
Tuscany, Italy$16.95
Characteristic brick red-orange of Sangiovese. Ripe red cherries, tomato leaf, hints of thyme, and oak spice greet the nose. On the palate, it is savoury and mouth-filling, with some astringency, significant earth, and spiciness. Acidity is medium and tannins are very fine. A balanced, made for (Italian) food style of wine with a finish of good length.
Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2015, Central Valley
Chile$11.95
Lots of riper cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose alongside herbal, smoky, and spicey notes. Rather coarse in texture but with good acidity - more complex than expected and enjoyable. GV
Cono Sur Bicicleta Viognier 2016
Colchagua Valley, Chile$11.65
An inviting, very aromatic nose bursting with spice, baby powder, flowers, white nectarine, and apricot fruit. Crisp, clean, and dry. A touch of bitterness detracts on the finish. Could use a little more complexity/structure, but excellent value and very enjoyable overall. 16/20
Casillero Del Diablo Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Central Valley, Chile$14.00
Vibrant youthful purple. Blackberry, minty green herbs, leather, cedar on the nose. Medium bodied, more spice and cinnamon on the palate than expected. Decent, especially at the price.
Rocca Delle Macie Chianti Classico 2013, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$18.95
Fine red fruit with nice earthy savour - strong Tuscan character with good balance, length, and depth.
Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir 2014, Central Valley
Chile$11.95
Juicy red fruit with a touch of floral spice and a hint of leafy/pine/eucalytpus. Fantastic value, pretty well-balanced, lighter red.
