Henri Bourgeois Les Baronnes Sancerre 2011, Ac
Loire, France$24.95
This is a youthful sauvignon blanc shows mostly primary fruit and vegetal characteristics such as elderflower, gooseberry, green bell pepper, pear, lemon and hints of apricot and peach. The palate is soft, mouth watering and slightly short and bitter on the finish. The balance of the wine is slightly off as the flavour intensity and body do not fully match the higher level of acidity. As with Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre there is the characteristic of stony minerality that comes from the chalky, very stoney soil. This is an acceptable wine that is suitable to drink now.
Anne Boecklin Lieu Dit Altenbourg Old Vines Pinot Gris 2010, Ac Alsace
Alsace, France$19.95
This is a mouth coating pinot gris with medium dry sweetness matched with medium acidity and reasonable alcohol with good balance. Elegant with noticeable aromas and flavour characteristics of nectarine, apricot, honey, lychee and mango. Medium finish, some minerality on the palate. Definitely recommend this to drink now, not suitable for anything other than short term ageing.
