Klumpp Pinot Gris 2013, Qualitätswein
Baden, Germany$19.25
Very nice! A bit of mineral verve and a touch of salinity running through it, which I like in Pinot Gris. A world apart from the sweet, flowery examples from Alsace, this is dry and spicy.
Langa Tradicion Centenaria Garnacha 2012, Do Calatayud
Aragón, Spain$12.75
Nice grenache here for the price. A little dusty at first, but opens up in the glass. Highly concentrated stuff. Dark for a grenache. Notes include chocolate, vanilla, cherry syrup, and jammy dark fruit. A good buy if you ask me.
Domaine Des Côtes Blanches Sancerre 2013, Ac
Loire, France$24.95
Crisp, vibrant, nervy Sauvignon Blanc from a family- run estate in the Loire Valley. Stone fruit and citrus are in abundance, but the big star is the spritzy minerality; draw a little air in over a mouthful and feel the sparks fly!
Delicious stuff. Hands down my favourite Sancerre of the vintage. Great value.
Mission Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, VQA Okanagan Valley
British Columbia, Canada$27.95
I liked this wine a lot, even without decanting. Intense blackberry and wood on the nose, mid-to-full feel in the mouth, and a nice, smoky, lingering finish.
This wine does enjoy some time in the decanter however. Opens up a lot, revealing more fruit, more chocolate, and less wood and booze. A solid Okanagan Valley Cab.
Louis Latour Marsannay 2009, Ac
Burgundy, France$24.95
A rather fiery pinot noir. Could use a couple years in the cellar, but drinking fairly well now, especially with food.
