Château Labegorce Zede 2006, Ac Margaux
Bordeaux, France$47.95
okay. Not a great example of a Margaux
La Pieve Barolo 2007, Docg
Piedmont, Italy$34.95
The great Nebbiolo-based wines of Barolo rarely come at this fine a price, so this is the perfect opportunity to sample this prime example of a Piedmontese classic. A good complexity to the aromas with black fruit, wood and spice, plus a lifted note of roses. The palate is dry and ripe with firm tannins that are kept in balance by the depth of fruit. More spice notes with leather and redcurrant also present. Ideal for hearty mid-winter fare such as beef stew. It’s also cellarable 2-4+ years. (VINTAGES panel, April 2011)
Domaine Seguin Manuel Savigny Lès Beaune Godeaux 2008
Burgundy, France$36.95
Score: 90 WS
Exotic notes of wild berry and bilberry highlight this elegant red. This is vibrant, displaying a light, firm base of tannins. At its core is sweet, succulent fruit. Nice length, too. Best from 2011 through 2016. 450 cases made. –BS
