Maison Roche De Bellene Cuvée Réserve Bourgogne 2010, Ac
Burgundy, France$19.95
Definitely agree with other posters. Fine Burgundian Pinot at a ery fair price. Red fruit (mostly cherry) + some cinnamon and rhubarb. Tart, but food friendly. Feel the elegance and ageing potential. Celebrity equivalent: Ratatouille (from the animated movie)..
Kenneth Volk Santa Maria Cuvée Chardonnay 2009, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara
California, Usa$19.25
No, you will not think this wine is European. I has more oak, but not too much (just like good Sonoma/Carneros chardonnay should taste). Stone and yellow fruits, with some oak spice (ginger) and balancing acidity + mineral. Bravo to Ken! Celebrity equivalent: Diane Lane.
Henry Of Pelham Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2007, VQA Niagara Escarpment
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Drinking it in 2012. Very concentrated and tasty. Just tiny bit over the hill, but wow for 5-year old sub-$20 wine. Celebrity equivalent: Madonna.
Malivoire M2 Small Lot Gamay 2010, Niagara Escarpment & Twenty Valley
Ontario, Canada$20.00
Cru Beaujolais from our backyard. Lively and holding very well in 2012. Does have a bit of a peppery note. I see a lot of great future for Ontario Gamay (led by Malivoire and 13th Street). Celebrity equivalent: Nelly Furtado.
Chateau Smith Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Columbia Valley
Washington, Usa$24.95
Can I have the bottle that Harvey Steiman from WS had?
Not a bad $15 wine sold here for $25. Nice concentration, black fruit, tar and, yes, vanilla. Feels a bit disjointed. Celebrity equivalent: Nick Nolte after the police arrest.
Thirty Bench Red 2010, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$24.00
A lot of going on there. Complexity is outstanding. Very strong influence of Cab Franc - which is a good thing in Niagara. Flavorful, distinctive. Tobacco, dark currant, meat and acidity streak. Yum. Celebrity equivalent: Allanis Morisette.
Macmurray Ranch Pinot Noir 2010, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County
California, Usa$24.95
Very Russian River: controlled strength. You will come back to enjoy, again and again, the intoxicating nose of spice box, red fruits and rhubarb. Just a hint of California sweetness, compensated by acids and restrain. Yummy with food (seared salmon). Celebrity equivalent: Kirsten Bell (as Veronica Mars).
Lucas & Lewellen Pinot Noir 2007, Santa Barbara County
California, Usa$18.95
Man, I wish I have bought more of it. drinking it in 2013 and it is beautiful. California flavor, without California heavy-hitter alcohol. Reminds me of Marimar Torres style, at half the price.
