Castillo De Monseran Garnacha 2010, Carinena
Spain$9.95
The best version of this wine that I have tasted in several years. A juicy grenache that was served on a very hot day. I pull raspberries with a hint of earth of the nose, ripe, plump cherries on the palate, a clean fruity mouth-feel with a hint of black licorice. Served slightly chilled to compensate for steamy temperatures of the day it was served.
Red Knot Mclaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Mclaren Vale
Australia$18.05
Smoothish tannins but that is about all. The fruit on the nose lends itself to being jammy cherries and raspberries. Similar flavours in taste. I was disappointed with the acidity that left a slight tartness in my mouth. Memorable for being "not so memorable." Overpriced.
Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda 2009, Luján De Cuyo, Mendoza
Argentina$11.95
This was an intriguing wine. I have enjoyed this in past vintages, especially the tendency to reflect an Old-World style. The 2009 has a deep plum/prune fruit on the nose, which follows on the palate. Nothing too complicated, decently rich yet smooth tannins. Food-friendly, also good on its own. NOTE -- This is not a Malbec. The grape is Bonarda, at one time Argentina's most widely planted grape.
