Alvento Elige 2007, VQA Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Disappointing, given how highly its rated. For a "meritage" blend, it immediately reminded me of an inexpensive, not that great, Spanish rioja. Oak dominates the nose and palate. Dry, light to medium body, not a lot of fruit flavour. Perhaps, as David Lawrason suggests, cellaring for 2 or more years would help.
Tasted Oct. 2011 Value 5/10
Viña Tarapacá Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Do Valle Del Maipo
Maipo Valley, Chile$17.95
Mcwilliam's Hanwood Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, Southeastern Australia
Australia$14.95
A favourite of mine. Tannins and fruit are well balanced, with a nice black cherry aftertaste.
Last tasted Oct. 2011. Value 9/10
