Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2006, Mclaren Vale Bottle
Pirramimma Petit Verdot 2006, Mclaren Vale
South Australia, Australia
$24.95

I find the ratings here a little modest. I really like this wine. Tastes much more expensive and I think it's really good value. Fruity, excellent nose, long smooth finish. 24 months in oak gives it a rich smooth flavour. I've never had a 100% Petit Verdot and I would highly recommend this one if you are looking for something different. It recommends a double decant on the bottle, but it tastes pretty good right out of the bottle.

This is a big, intense Cab. Lots of dark plum, earthy nose. Not my favorite wine from this region known more for Malbec, but this Cab is quite refined as long as you want something big and bold.

Weinert Malbec 2005, Mendoza Bottle
Weinert Malbec 2005, Mendoza

When I opened this wine, I was surprised by the wonderful nose. I just knew that I'd like it. First taste was overwhelming black current or dark berry flavours that are smooth and refined. However, it's almost too much. Not something that you just want to sit and sip. Definitely needs a decant and have with spicy or barbeque food. For this price range, I'm tempted to get a case and see if it mellows a bit with time.

Ippolito Liber Pater Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore 2008, Doc Bottle
Ippolito Liber Pater Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore 2008, Doc
Calabria, Italy
$13.95

I was looking for something different and the Gaglioppo grape is very different from what I'm used to. However, I wouldn't call this a finer wine but rather just unique. It's earthy, leathery nose does not inspire, but considering the price it is quite smooth. This one definitely needs a decant and it seems to improve with time. I wonder if the 2006 might have been better.

Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Sonoma/Napa Counties Bottle
Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Sonoma/Napa Counties
California, Usa
$22.95

This is an excellent wine and considering the price, I would get all that you can. I've always enjoyed this wine, but 2008 seems to be smoother than last year. The nose is somewhat muted, almost woodsy with a hint of dark plum and fruit. This is a good wine to share with friends and impress them with your fine choice. I think a 30 minute decant would be all that you need, then enjoy.
