Raimat Abadia Crianza 2007, Do Costers Del Segre
Spain$15.95
Haven't had a Spanish wine for quite a while. The first glass was with old cheddar and freshly baked bread, an instant success. Had it later with chicken chili for dinner and suprisingly it lost some of its character and body. All in all, highly recommended for an entry point to Spanish wine. Good value for the money. Looking forward to my next Spanish red.
Catedral Reserva 2007, Dao
Portugal$10.95
This is one interesting wine and our first Portuguese wine. Initial taste fairly smooth, followed by a full bodied lingering finish with a lot of almost unrefined weight. My wife would go a little further finding the finish slighly harsh around the edges. Best suited for a heavy dish like a rich stew or a roast. That said, you may not find a better wine for $9.95 for a very long time.
Viña Peralillo Arenal Carmenere 2009, Colchagua Valley
Chile$14.95
This is a lovely wine -- for all the reasons Sara and David note. If you haven't tried a Carmenere (most of our friends by only Cabs from Chile), this would be an excellent place to start.
Apollonio Terragnolo Negroamaro 2004, Igt Salento
Puglia, Italy$18.95
John Szabo's review is bang on. "Not a style I enjoy."
