Castellare Di Castellina Riserva Chianti Classico 2006, Docg
Tuscany, Italy$29.95
I guess I got unlucky as I got a bottle similar to J.Szabo's one, but even worse. It was undrinkable.
Luca Pinot Noir 2008, Uco Valley, Mendoza
Argentina$29.95
I found this wine very pleasing and easy to drink. It is in a light, old-world style, as per J.Szabo's comments, which I enjoy; this may explain the lower score in WS. However, I though it was pretty well balanced. It is not a 92-points wine IMHO, but more a decent QPR for Pinot Noir. I now look forward to trying other Argentinian Pinots.
Castelmonte Cent'are Nero D'avola 2008, Sicily
Sicily, Italy$13.95
Great, reliable go-to Italian wine, gets everything right, great QPR, what more can I say or ask for? I agree wholeheartedly with Thurlow's comments on this one.
Montecillo Reserva 2005, Rioja
Spain$17.95
One of the most reliable wine in my experience, with great QPR to boot. Classic Rioja taste with good flavor and depth that is not overdoing it like too many of the modern-style Spanish wines.
Frogmore Creek Pinot Noir 2006, Tasmania
Australia$24.95
If tasted blindfolded, no one would probably have detected any Pinot Noir characteristics in the bottle I opened. While there were no flagrant technical issues, there was not just a lack of varietal taste, but of any specific taste at all. I will not try again. Tasted November 28, 2010.
Louis Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2007
Burgundy, France$22.95
I don't mind light, but when I refilled my glass, I saw that 30 minutes of air exposure in the bottle had managed to already dissipate the flavors - the first glass was not that great either, lacking in both nose, body, fruit and harmony.
