Malivoire Albert's Honour Old Vines Foch 2009, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$24.95
Found some complexity in the nose with some farm, decaying leaf, wood vine, menthol and earth along with blackberry and black cherry. Decent acid, no tannins and a short, juicy finish.
E. Guigal Côtes Du Rhône Blanc 2009, Ac
Rhône, France$19.95
The nose of honeysuckle, red apple and canned peaches (like fruit cups I ate when I was a kid) is inviting. The palate is fleshy, and perhaps lacking acidity, but nicely compensated with lots of lemon and distinctive spice (clove?) that lingers into the respectable finish. Almost New World in style - I imagine due to the warm vintage. May 2011.
Château Au Vignoble 2006, Ac Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux, France$12.95
Woody and rustic; shows good currant fruit and sweet herbs. Finishes decently with firm tannins. Quirky enough to keep me interested.
Mas Des Bressades Cuvée Excellence 2008, Ac Costières De Nîmes
Rhône, France$19.95
My first experience with brettanomyces (I bought this bottle intentionally based on controversial reviews).
I'm not one to shy away from dominant aromas, but while I was able to find salty meat, baked blackberry and eucalyptus, I was overwhelmed by the brett and found this wine undrinkable. Like I'd been to the farm and didn't wash my hands before dinner.
