Stanners Pinot Gris Cuivre 2019, Prince Edward County
Ontario, Canada$30.00
Peach, stone fruit, white tea tannins, viscous, succulent.
Easily my favourite Ontario Pinot Gris.
Maculan Pinot Grigio 2016, Igt Veneto
Veneto, Italy$15.95
Much better than previous vintages, which were flatter, slightly overripe or oxidized, this is livelier, with minerality, more freshness, and a nice fruit dose of canary melon, honeysuckle and purity of fruit on the palate.
Nice example of pinot grigio with elegance and depth. Really enjoying this.
Piper Heidsieck Brut, Champagne
Champagne, France$71.60
Tried for the first time (02/24) and received confirmation of the reviews placed here. A notably complex, interestingly nuanced (flavours) and yet refreshing Champagne without the slightest austerity. Lovely balance of fruit, florality, minerality and acidity. I like the description 'precision' John S uses, that's my perception. This Champagne has moved to the top of my list of favourites, just behind Taittinger, and well above the average.
Absolutely worth a try if you never have.
Bailly Lapierre Réserve Brut Crémant De Bourgogne, A.C.
Burgundy, France$24.95
My go-to Cremant that never disappoints. Closer than most to Champagne in style and character. Lovely complexity without being overly autolytic. Fresh, vibrant fruits, balanced, very easy to enjoy. Great party accompaniment as it looks and tastes of Champagne at 1/3-1/4 the cost. (03/24)
Rustenberg Chardonnay 2012
Stellenbosch, South Africa$19.95
First impressions are of pear compote, lemon custard and a faint doughy/challah on the end; finishing with good, balancing acidity; enough body and weight throughout, and decent length. A smiling, delicious chardonnay and perhaps the best I've yet to try at this price point. I love it and I'm getting more!
Kir Yianni Cuvée Villages Xinomavro 2020, P.D.O. Naoussa
Macedonia, Greece$17.95
A superb discovery for the price! A real pleasure to sip and sip...I won't repeat the consensus of reviews, just wanted to add another 90+ to this wine's score.
Crudo Cararratto Zibibbo 2017, Terre Siciliane
Sicily, Italy$12.00
Lovely value in this somewhat exotic Italian White.
Peach kumquats lime zest and ethics have white flower on the nose, with the same continuing on the pallets leaning a bit more to the Citrus side, with a lovely interchange of richness and acidity to keep this very well balanced.
A fun and tasty little organic Sicilian wine and again very good value.
Château De L'aumérade Cru Classé Cuvée Marie Christine Rosé 2015, Ac Côtes De Provence
Provence, France$17.75
this is NOT a rose by the LCBO #
Wine Align, this needs to be changed
Kwv The Vinecrafter Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Western Cape, South Africa$9.95
2019 Vintage - Being generous here with a 87 score... very thin and green on both the nose and palate, lacks both complexity and typicity, but its $10, so didn't score lower
Kew Vineyards Organic Riesling Sparkling 2017, VQA Ontario
Ontario, Canada$19.95
Excellently crafted, perfectly balanced, delicious organic bubbly. I don't know any better sparkler for the price.
