Hidden Bench Tête De Cuvée Chardonnay 2009, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula
Ontario, Canada$45.20
Tasted July 2020. This wine has aged well. Good aromatics, lightly toasted, vanilla, lemon and pear. On the palate, loads of lemon. Balanced by pear and toasty notes. Body was thin.
Plantagenet Lancaster Shiraz 2018, Great Southern
Western Australia, Australia$39.95
Lawrason and Szabo nailed it. I’m not normally a fan of Shiraz but this is one of the best wines I’ve had lately. Nose is lovely, edging towards dark fruit rather than Raspberries with the added touches of herbal notes. As Szabo mentions, the 14.5 abv is big but there is no heat. Tannins are soft. It is drinking well. I successfully paired it with rosemary Moose.
Domaine Couroulu Vacqueyras Cuvée Classique 2017, A.O.C. Vacqueyras
Rhône, France$38.00
Expressive nose for a Rhone wine. Raspberry and dark fruit. On the palate plum, pepper, thyme and olive. Soft but present tannin. Fruit gives way to herbal notes. Paired well with marinated flank steak.
De Bortoli Willowglen Shiraz 2018, Riverina
New South Wales, Australia$17.10
Aggressive acids were a real turn off. Made it almost undrinkable.
Domaine Du Bicheron Mãcon Peronne 2017, Ac, Burgundy
Burgundy, France$19.95
Not what you think about when you think Burgundy but a complex , interesting wine. I found it chalked full of apple, tropical fruit and floral notes. It got better as it opened in the glass. Not the 96 points of decanter but a good wine as long as you are not looking for a typical expression of burgundy.
