Château De Beaucastel Châteauneuf Du Pape 1998
Rhône, France$129.00
This 20 year old Chateauneuf is showing its age very well. More towards the Burgundian style with tremendous tertiary notes of potting soil and forest floor but still complimented with classic garrigue and bret. The fruit is still quite prominent after several hours of decanting; mostly tart red cherry with a slight hint of cassis. I wouldn't wait much longer to open this fabulous wine. Tasted March 2018.
Argyros Assyrtiko 2016, Santorini
Santorini, Greece$29.95
This Assyrtiko is so refreshing with lovely notes of citrus blossom, orange zest, hazelnut, orchard fruit, and an amazing flinty minerality. Tasted February 2018.
Henri De Villamont Montagny 1er Cru 2014, Ac
Burgundy, France$33.75
What a great price for a 1er Cru white Burgundy. The first thing I noticed is the oak; caramel and baking spices, particularly cinnamon. However, it’s very well integrated and it doesn’t overshadow the rest of what’s going on in this glass. The fruit is on the ripe/tart spectrum with pronounced yellow apple, pink grapefruit, and orange zest, with some almond nuttiness. As well, there is the very classic Burgundian lees with cremini mushrooms and a wet stone minerality. I would wait 2 years and pair with a grilled pork chop, mushroom cream sauce, and some blanched asparagus. Tasted May 2018
