Château Brande Bergère Cuvée O'byrne 2009, Ac Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux, France$25.95
Red fruit is the first aroma to the nose owing to the merlot dominance of this right bank bordeaux. Pleasing complexity and lovely aging have led to a wine that could be the star of any dinner party.
Château Maurac 2004, Ac Haut Médoc
Bordeaux, France$29.95
I must admit that when I first had this wine, shortly after its uncorking, I found it insipid with overwhelming scents of tobacco and smoke that was downright off-putting. This was as my wife as 39.5 weeks pregnant with our first child and, thinking this could be my last night of freedom, I actually corked the wine to open a different bottle. Upon revisiting this bottle a day later what followed could only be described as magical. True complexity with earthy tannins and an almost necessity to go back for a second glass. Do yourself a favour and decant this wine for a similar experience.
